Holiday Happenings

Taylor playing "I spy" with Mayley.

Wade made 2 batches of sugar cookies, frosted them with the boys and delivered them to friends and neighbors.

I usually buy an ornament for each of the kids for Christmas...but this year I thought it would be fun for them to make their own... I got the idea for the snowman ornaments off my friend Christi's blog...Hers were MUCH cuter.... but the boys had fun, and it kept them entertained for a few hours.

Mayley kept herself busy by "cleaning out" the cupboards

A few years ago,in an attempt to get my boys to eat SOMETHING remotely healthy on Christmas morning, I bought small cereal boxes to put in there stockings... somehow that morphed into a tradition in there minds. Since they also think that peach french toast should also be a Christmas morning tradition they got there cereal boxes Christmas eve morning.

Somehow making gingerbread houses became "tradition" too... This year we found kits at the grocery store . Much easier than making your own. Taylor chose a Santa Sleigh. As you can tell they had lots of fun!

And one of my personal favorite traditions is our annual Christmas Eve seafood dinner with Wade's parents... This years menu included lobster tail, crab legs, shrimp scampi, cocktail shrimp, rice pilaf, garlic cheddar biscuits, fried Pollock and  bacon scallops. Even mayley enjoyed the meal.

Colby,Mayley, Taylor and Ryan showing off their Christmas Eve Pajama's

And last, but not least, the annual tradition of leaving a treat for Santa and his reindeer, along with a note.
This years treat was root beer, eggnog, crackers and cheese and carrot stick with a lemon garnish for the reindeer.

Hope you all had a very merry Christmas!!!!!!!

One step closer...

okay... It is no secret that my blog has been severely neglected. (I know it's bad when even my husband asks), "so, when are you going to update your blog?".  I wish I could come up with a good excuse as to why it has gone unattended for several months... I've reached deep, really, really deep... there's nothing. I will admit that I have this need to "fill in" the gaps.... In my mind I have a hard time just picking up with life as it is now. For whatever reason I feel this undying need to go back over the several months that have passed since my last update and catch up on everything that has happened...but, I also find that incrediably overwhelming. And quite frankly everyone is over what  happened FOUR, yes FOUR months ago....  So I'm making a fresh start and hopefully being able to wipe the slate clean will inspire me to visit more often.

Christmas is quickly appraoching and I'm am glad to say I am in the "tying up lose ends" phase.Today I was able to tie a knot in one of those ends... I've been wanting to decorate these littelebook bags for the 2 little boys I babysit on Tuesday's and Thursday's. I have to say...sewing is usually more of a frustration to me than it is worth... but I quite enjoyed putting these together and even found it somewhat theraputic...  One more thing I can check off my list....

How we spent our SUMMER

(Warning : major picture overload.... and since my last blog they have changed the program and I can't move my pictures around where I want them any more....so these aren't really in order)

We attended the Cache County Fair

Wade bought calves for each of the kids to bottle feed.

Ryan and Colby both enjoyed another season of baseball.

We also enjoyed the annual Lindley reunion where we, among other things, swam ,went bowling, ran races, ate lots of yummy food and had a great time socializing.

We enjoyed a visit from Grandma Scott, Aunt Debbi, Koben, Iris and Amara. The kids had great a great time playing together at the park, swimming at the Logan aquatic center, getting iceceam at Caspers, building forts in the backyard, building legos, watching movies and playing wii.

We spent a day at the Gateway in Salt Lake City, playing in the fountains and shopping.
Mayley is such a trooper...she was content just being pushed around in the stroller all summer.

Colby and Taylor took swim lessons...Ryan and Mayley enjoyed watching them and swimming in the outdoor pool.

Colby doing the back stroke.

Taylor practicing his kicks.

Colby

Ryan and Mayley.
We also attended the summer movie series at cinefour theatres, visited sveral different parks in the area...the boys slept in a tent in the backyard and went camping for three nights in the canyon with Wade. We ate smore's watched movies and had lots of fun... but when school started last week we were all ready for the routine that the school year provides.

I'll NEVER say that to my kids....

Do you ever look in the mirror and see your mother? Do you ever say something and turn around to look for your mom? I remember several instances in my childhood where my parents did or said something and I swore I was never going to say or do that to MY kids.
As I have 'matured' and become a parent myself, I have come to a different understanding, and have experienced for myself the frustration of not being able to get my kids to take me seriously...I have even found myself on the verge... of becoming my mother.

The other day my boys were fighting. I had begged, pleaded and threatened...but the fighting persisted... Finally, I had, had enough...I stormed down the stairs...fuming and trying to find the words to express my exasperation. I rounded the corner and, In my less than patient voice, began..."If you boys don't stop this fighting I'm going to ... to.... " the smiles began to creep across their faces and I was racking my brain for the threat of all threats....
Suddenly I was taken back to a time, when I must have been, 12 or 13 years old, riding in the car with my mom, three brothers, and my sister. Daniel (my youngest sibling) must have been 3 or 4 at the time and had been antagonizing his us relentlessly...My mom had, had all she could stand.
"Daniel Ammon Scott, If you don't sit down and keep your hands to yourself...I'm going to... I'm going to... pull your hair out....in handful's.... and it's....going to...grow back...BLACK AND CURLY!"

As soon as the words left her mouth, I burst into uncontrollable laughter...Daniel uncontrollable sobbing.
I looked at my mother and said, "What did you just say?" She looked at me and said "I don't know?" Then we were ALL laughing (except for Daniel... I'm sure the image of his blonde, straight hair being pulled out and regrowing black and curly had something to do with it.) At the time I just thought my mother had completely lost it. Now I have more understanding and empathy for what she must have been feeling, but unable to express that day.

Sometimes...your kids leave you speechless...sometimes they bring you to say things you really wish you wouldn't have.

This one is for Aunt Debbi

Here you go Debbi. I will admit... these are NOT the best pictures. Mayley was not cooperating with me this morning. She would have the Biggest smiles until the camera came out... then the smiles left. But I did promise so here is our little angel.
Fiesty does not even begin to discribe the side that has come from this little sweetie the past few days. If I try to give her, her pacifer or bottle, and that is not what she had in mind... I get a sharp little scream from her. And heaven forbid if I attempt agian....
Ryan says when she looks at him like this she is saying "Seriously Ryan ?!???"
