A Camping we will go

Last week we snuck away for a quick camping trip. We are so fortunate to have a camp ground just 15 minutes away. It's close and yet once your there, you still get the total camping experience. It's perfect for us. And the boys LOVE to go camping. They had fun doing the usual shooting of B-B guns, playing in the creek, making s'mores and hiking.

Visit from Grandpa and Grandma Scott

My parents came from Las Vegas to spend a couple of days with us. We enjoyed having them here and while our weekend was low key and uneventful we had a great time. The boys thought is was great to take Grandma and Grandpa to the farm and let them feed the calves. Grandma and Grandpa were great sports. Friday night we cooked and had dinner outside on the patio, then we did s'mores and waited for it to get dark enough to do fireworks. Unfortunately, by the time it was dark it was too windy to do the fireworks so they had to be postponed until Saturday. Grandpa and Grandma left on Saturday at about 2:00 to catch their flight back to Las Vegas, the boys moped around and then finally settled down and watch a couple of the movies their grandparents brought for them. Then later that night we were able to light fireworks. The boys loved lighting the fireworks and running away before they went off. Wade and I enjoyed watching them and how excited they were about EVERYTHING.

My FARM boys

I wasn't raised on a farm and all of this is still kind of a novelty to me. And while I don't like the smell, the way it attracts fly's, or all the dirt and mess that come with it... what I do love is watching my boys learn to work, and for the most part, actually enjoy it.

Exciting news

Our lives are pretty low key. And while I love my life and am mostly grateful for the mundane,(it beats the alternative). I also love the rare occasion that we have something exciting to share.

We recently found out we are expecting. And while I don't love morning/(more like all day) sickness or complete exhaustion. I do love the thought of having a baby. The boys have been so cute and so excited... it's made the whole experience even that much more fun.

the due date is January 17th ( colby's birthday). And while the chance of having it on that date is VERY unlikely... I was concerned about poor Colby having to share his birthday. When I asked him what he thought of having a baby on his birthday he said " that would be a great birthday present." Once again my children manage to take my breath away.

top 16 things that have happened in the past 16 weeks since we blogged

Okay, I know I am soooooo pathetic. Has it really been 16 whole weeks since I posted. Yikes! You know it's been a long time since you posted when your friends start doing updates about your life on their blog.

So while our life has been quite boring, okay, maybe not BORING... maybe just uneventful I will make a small attempt to update you with the happenings of the past several weeks.

I am not ranking these events in order of importance or status in our lives...but merely as a calendaring.

16. Ryan and Colby finished their basketball season.

15. Then they started Soccer (which kept getting delayed due to snow )

14. Grandpa and Grandma Scott came and visited over spring break and throughly spoiled the boys.

13. Wade went to a class and earned his permit to carry a concealed weapon.

12. We purchased 2.72 acres of farm land.

11. I was released from the activities Committee

10. And called as the 2nd Counselor in the Relief Society Presidency

9. Ryan and Colby finished their soccer season

8. and started Baseball.... which (not surprisingly ) was delayed for rain, hail and thunderstorms.

7. Ryan's class wrote and preformed an opera

6. Taylor loves the Tractors and the Farm. Anytime Wade moves he asks "Dad, are you going to the Farm? Can I go with you."

5. Wade purchased three newborn calves for the boys to bottle feed. So far they have loved doing the twice daily feedings.

4. The boys decided to give their calves names. Taylor named his Theodore,  Colby's is Larry and Ryan's is Dexter

3. Ryan and Colby 'graduated' from 3rd and 1st grade.

2.We thought about going camping, but,it rained so the next evening we did tin foil dinners in the fire pit and the boys slept in the trailer in the backyard.

1. I finally changed the valentine background off our blog.

January Update

Colby lost his 2nd tooth, during a basketball game.
Luckily, it was while he was on the bench and not actually playing.

Ryan had his poem selected to be published.

Taylor went to his first birthday party. Left early,
came home, and had his own 'Party for one'. He's kind of a home body.

The boys found an old Pac Man game of Wade's and had fun trying it out...after the Wii though...they decided this wasn't nearly as exciting.

Colby enjoyed his 7th birthday.

Colby earned 'student of the week' and had lunch with the pricipal.

Ryan took first place in his class spelling bee.

It rained as much as it snowed, but Taylor made the best of it.

Holiday Hiatus

I intended to start this post with an apology....but in all honesty...I can't say that I am sorry that my blog has been neglected for the past several weeks. We have been enjoying what one might refer to as a Holiday Hiatus of sorts. We traveled to Las Vegas for Thanksgiving break and enjoyed several days of being spoiled by my Mom's hospitality and holiday goodies. (it's just not the holiday's without peanut butter fudge and chex mix). We then returned and enjoyed a wonderfully relaxing Christmas. Some of the highlights were: our 2nd annual Christmas Eve Seafood dinner. Last year we decided to celebrate Christmas Eve with Wade's parents by hosting a seafood dinner in our home. It was such a huge hit we brought it back for round two this year. Our Holiday feast included shrimp scampi, lobster tail and crab legs along with stuffed mushrooms, twice baked potatoes, vegetables and garlic cheese biscuts. Then Grandma and Grandpa Lindley joined us again Christmas morning to watch the boys open their presents and enjoy a breakfast of peach french toast. We later enjoyed a Christmas dinner of prime rib, grandma's famous shredded cream potatoes and spaghetti squash. We spent the next several days in our pj's challenging each other on the wii and games we recieved for christmas.
As with most things in life...all good things must come to an end. Tomorrow life resumes... but not without some great memories and a few extra pounds.
One regret I do have... I was enjoying 'the moments' so much... I didn't capture them on film.
